Why Colon Cancer Screening Matters
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when polyps are detected and removed before they become cancerous. Most colon cancers develop from polyps over several years, providing a window for detection and prevention through regular screening.
Recommendation: Colon cancer screening is recommended starting at age 45 for average-risk individuals. Those with family history of colon cancer or polyps should begin screening earlier, typically at age 40 or 10 years before the youngest affected family member.
